Why you should keep learning new things

I have been learning about all kinds of things recently. SEO, Coding & 3D modeling to name some and it struck me how much I love learning new things. Udemy.com has become an obsession and feeds my habit of wanting to be able to make whatever comes into my head.

If only I had this drive when I was at school…

I consider myself now a lifelong learner and I always look forward to what I’m going to learn next. Here are some reasons why you should be one too:

  • It helps you grow. As I learn about different problems I am also learning lots of new ways to help.

  • I get chronically bored. As partial as I am to TikTok nothing keeps me more occupied than getting to grips with something like learning how to code.

  • You become part of communities. I have met and spoken to lots of people I would never have come into contact with. Stack overflow is full of really smart coders who will make fun of your mistakes and help you. Even spending ages writing out strings of code and explaining things to you.

  • Self-esteem boosting. Have I yet mentioned that I learned how to code? Having this knowledge and building my own ideas has been great for my confidence.

  • Exposes you to new ideas. I love my own ideas but when you're chatting with people with different brains to yours it’s amazing what others can think of.

  • Makes you more money. All the things I learn I have applied to my wife’s business as an author and something as simple as SEO really can make the needle jump.

  • I hope it’s also keeping my brain in shape. My nan lived till she was 103 and she was constantly watching ‘countdown’ and doing crosswords. Her mental sharpness was always amazing to me.

    I think I’ll learn to beatbox next…
